General Manager

Description:The General Manager is a leadership position based at the headquarters branch of Third Sun Solar in Athens, OH. The General Manager is ultimately responsible for the safety, quality, efficiency, profitability and customer experience of the projects that are completed by the company. The General Manager is responsible for personnel management, including organizing, motivating, and leading the operations, sales and administration teams. The General Manager is accountable for the financial performance (Revenue and P&L) as well as key performance indicators (KPIs) of the company.
Duties:• Flexibility and willingness to “wear many hats” is required. The General Manager will need the ability to actively support the following:
o Operations (oversee purchasing, permitting, project scheduling, supporting installations, and manage warehouse, vehicle fleet and facility);
o Sales (marketing and targeting various customer classes, supporting project developers, producing winning proposals and bids), and
o Administration (fully utilize accounting program, interface with and support financial staff, oversee cash accounts, maintain internal financial controls)

• As a member of the executive team, the General Manager will work with the owners and others to develop yearly and quarterly strategic plans, budgets and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Work closely with owners and other management team members to accurately produce sales and installation forecasts and provide performance and variance reporting.
• Work with the Sales team to understand and enhance sales process and performance.
• Work with Operations team to understand and enhance the process to deliver top quality, durable and high performance projects along with stellar customer service.
• Evaluate and manage the resources and processes required for the successful completion of solar projects. Including: site evaluations, design and engineering, rebate and interconnection approvals, jurisdictional permits and inspections, excellent client communication, material procurement and logistics, safety, installation labor, quality control, and service.

• Understand, manage and report the company’s key performance indicators (KPIs); contribute to enhanced performance of the company.

• Ensure that every member of the company receives the proper safety training and equipment applicable to their position.

• Ensure that “Best Practices” are being consistently applied to every project.

• Work to ensure that we are delivering an excellent customer experience and address or escalate customer concerns as necessary

• Coordinate and facilitate all daily and weekly meetings (“huddles”) for each internal team; participate in all planning, scheduling and project specific meetings; facilitate staff meetings in the absence of the owners.

• Interface with outside advisors and recommend decisions necessary for the company regarding insurances, audit and CPA concerns or findings, HR issues, etc.
Qualifications:Minimum Requirements –

• This position requires an ownership mentality – the General Manager will act as proxy to the owners in various situations

• Positive attitude; not easily flustered, motivated team player, looking to succeed.
• Excellent problem solving skills are required. This position requires risk analysis, critical thinking and the ability to provide solutions to the benefit of the company, customers and projects.
• The candidate will have a track record with proven leadership abilities (communication, relationship building, training & development, hiring & firing) as well as project management experience.
• Ability to manage, motivate, and mentor a variety of personnel involved in the solar installation business which may include: Project Developers (salespeople), Project Managers, Procurement personnel, Estimators, Installers, Administrators and others.

Education – Undergraduate degree
Experience – Minimum of 5 years related and progressive experience in significant leadership role. Previous branch or general management experience preferred. Experience in process analysis and documentation, efficiency increases and continuous improvement processes.
Experience producing job cost analysis, accounting reports, key metrics reports and other reporting tools to be used by owners and management.
Proficiency in MS Office Products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Experience with Construction Project Management Software and Accounting software packages is a plus

Specialized Knowledge –
• Understanding of estimating, budgeting and monitoring budgets and costs to maximize positive cash flow
• Experience with construction industry and/or real estate development is a plus.
• Experience with solar energy products and processes is a plus.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Detailed oriented but able to grasp big picture.
• Good people skills, able to manage, motivate and discipline if necessary. Capable of building and leading a world-class team.
• A mindset of sustainability and mission orientation towards Clean Energy
Travel may be required; could be extensive at times, for the purpose of meeting with clients, stakeholders, or off-site personnel.
